This week we went to Dan-Yr-Ogof. We picked a very sunny day for it, it ended up being boiling!
Anybody in South Wales has visited at least once. I myself have been many times, but not for almost 20 years. As StarGirl is loving dinosaurs at the moment, and they have a huge dinosaur park it seemed like a good day out.
We had lunch outside next to some dinosaurs, then made our way around the park. It's sort of a one way system once you're inside. We first went into the longest cave, my mum and I don't remember ever being here before. It's not for the faint hearted, it was very dark and wet all around and with a toddler not too steady on her feet with sensory problems it wasn't easy. There was a lot of climbing and stairs involved. It took us quite a long time to go around, there's also a lot of low ceilings. The second cave was much brighter and had waterfalls. We didn't go all the way around as S had a bit of a freak out and we didn't remember having to walk under a waterfall. By the time we got out and looked at some dinosaurs it was incredibly hot. Most people had given up and were sitting down anywhere they could just for a rest in the baking heat. The last cave, the bone cave was up a lot of steps and a very tired StarGirl was already losing patience so we walked back down the mountain to the fab gift (Rock & Dino) shop. I think we spent longer in there than in the fist cave but there were lots of pretty stones to buy!
We will definitely visit again, most definitely when StarGirl is much older though and can understand it all and walk steady by herself!
She liked the large dinosaurs but did have a few meltdowns and cried quite a few times from the sheer size and noise of them. Definitely a good place to go when she's older!!
