Well I've had my Fitbit Surge for almost 24 hours and so far I am totally in love.
I've previously had a Fitbit One (which I really loved but wished there was a wrist strap) and a Fitbit Flex (which I loved but missed the screen element) so I'm used to how they work and can find my way around the app and settings easily.
Motivation wise I have been severely lacking in recent months, the Flex not having a screen hasn't helped, realtime results seem to be my thing and the lit up dots didn't seem to spur me on at all.
I chose the Surge rather than the ChargeHR as it had so many more features, and the realtime results would be more motivating.
So, 24 hours in I have had a quick chance to see how it works and use some of the features. I've tailored the exercise screen choices to things I like. I've done some workouts, had a bit of a relax and completed a nights sleep. Set up was easy as it usually is with Fitbits, and it took an hour to fully charge.
So how has it been? Well it's been amazing, I initially thought it might be a bit big but it's not much bigger than a watch would be. I've found it very comfy, the straps are made from a very soft rubber, and I like that it closes properly rather than the Flex poppers.
One of the main reasons I chose Fitbit over other bands is for the sleep tracking. As an insomniac I don't sleep much sometimes, with the Fitbit One and Flex you would either need to start and stop it when you sleep, or manually input times into the app after. The Surge tracks sleep automatically, which I was worried about as I thought maybe it would never think I'm sleeping I'm awake so much! However last night it tracked my sleep correctly to the exact minute I got in bed, tracked me getting up for a while this morning before deciding to go back to sleep, then got it exactly right to the minute when I woke. I'm not sure how it was so precise, and I'm actually more than a bit stunned!
The continuous heart rate feature is very interesting and I like that the little heart beats to the actual beat of my heart. So far it hasn't lost my heart rate whilst exercising either.
I have yet to use the gps function for walks and hikes, which I will blog about at a later date.
The price tag may be a bit daunting, but for an all rounder tracker with these features, and I also forgot to mention the text and call notifications (brilliant!) it's worth the investment if you're going to wear it and use it daily.
I'll review it again once I've tried out all the features and lived with it for a bit.
