Cleft Bottles/Feeding

This is the Squeezy MAM bottle from CLAPA (www.clapa.com)

To feed StarGirl the bottle needed to be squeezed the duration of the feed (yes it does hurt but you get used to it) You do sometimes squirt milk all over their faces from the extra hole in the top of the teat!!

I found it easiest for StarGirl to rest on my leg whilst I sat on the sofa or bed and hold the bottle with both hands. Feeds were often long (an hour or so) so it helped to be comfortable from the start!

There are now a few other bottles available which your cleft team will be able to tell you about, hopefully as the years go by, more and more will be available!

To sterilise these MAM bottles I used a cold water steriliser from Milton as the plastic is easily meltable!

Another tip, which I found a lifesaver, was to get my daughter used to room temperature milk from Day 1!
No need to wait for bottles, feeding can be done on demand within under a minute.
Easy in hospital, lifesaver for all the appointments and waiting in waiting rooms where there are no facilities let alone warmers!!
